Bloodline

As I am working on a piece titled “Bloodline”, I find myself connecting to the spirit of my American ancestors through the painting of red chains. Each chain link represents a different generation. I drew different patterns on each link to identify the uniqueness of each generation. While working on this piece, I was faced with understanding something about my American ancestors; our identity was birth out of oppression.

It makes total sense to me know why we kill, steal and destroy ourselves. All we know is to do that because that is what has been done to us for several generations. We think it is normal for our men to refer to our women as bitches and hoes. We even think it is normal for our women to refer to other women as bitches and hoes. I can keep going on about this but we all know about this subject. It has been preached and taught about as long as I can remember.

"...embracing my creative expression"

This was not about me being on my soapbox. It’s about me embracing my creative expression. Understanding where I come from helps me be creative today and inspires me to be creative tomorrow. I don’t know where this piece is going end; I do know that this piece is challenging me to embrace everything about me and my bloodline.
